I tried installing the new release over the old release, but when I launch it it still appears to be 2.34.1.140, instead of 3.whatever...?
Am I supposed to uninstall the earlier version first?

If you install version 3 it will not have any effect on version 2 you should get a new icon in your programs menu, you should look for a folder named Zip Backup to CD. The use your old job definitions you can open them with version 3 and save them in the location used by version 3 or you may copy them to the new location. To find the location select the Files menu Open backup job.
