I get an error that I can't backup the registry because NTbackup isn't installed.
NTbackup is installed in my copy of XP Pro.
I tried putting a copy in the windows root directory.
Is the program looking somewhere else?

The program is not looking at any specific path. On a Windows XP you can execute the command ntbackup.exe from any place an I should work. You can test it if you open a command prompt and type ntbackup.exe + enter, then the program shall come up on the screen. Do you have administrator rights? That may be necessary.
