Subject: Filenames w/ CAP int'l characters are always backed up

By: John Savage

Filenames containing CAPital int'l characters such as Â, Ê, È, É are systematically backed up when backing up files on basis of the archive bit (i.e. not using the catalog) eventhough archive bit is not set.
The problem does NOT appear with non-capital int'l characters.

The problem can not be recalled in our tests. Could you please let me know what operating system and what language you have on the PC.

I have also problem with international characters like øæå we have here in Norway. But here the error appears lower case caracters also. So I fill appox 400MB at every backup with data not needed to be backed up.

In the catalog to runs look like:
bk031.zip,Svømming.indd,D:\My Documents\Bilder\,04.10.2004 20:58:44,557056,
bk131.zip,Svømming.indd,D:\My Documents\Bilder\,04.10.2004 20:58:44,557056,

In the zip Svømming.indd is renamed to Svomming.indd.

I am using XP Pro SP 2, English version

The problem is that some characters are not supported in the file-names when you use compressed folders in Windows XP. If you where using a Norwegian version of Windows XP it would have worked with the ø in the file-name. To overcome this problem we have released a new version 3.19.8 released 5. February 2006.
If use XP compatible file-names is checked. The conversion of foreign characters are changed to to not convert if the file-name contains characters which are not supported by the Windows XP compressed folders.

The 3.19.8 worked well. Thanks.
